D ue to my Asia Miles mileage was expiring soon, I decided to maximize the redemption value with flying on their Business Class from Singapore to Amsterdam via Hong Kong. Since Cathay Pacific is a national airlines of Hong Kong, their hub centralized in Hong Kong. Cathay offers nine flights a day to Hong Kong from Singapore. This is a review of my evening flight on Cathay’s CX716 business class on a B777-300ER from Singapore Changi Airport to Hong Kong International Airport, the flight time was about 3 hours 55 minutes.
In the Air
Sitting in the middle row give me a freedom to detach from my seat anytime. I am the kind of person that like to stretch my muscles in the middle lane of the plane. And I am a toilet addict, you know what does it means. The configuration on the B777-300ER is 2-2-2 with 5 rows of 6 seats and a final sixth row of just four seats. The welcome champagne was ready together with the fresh orange juice. What I like about the Cathay Business Class seat is the full flatbed feature. Suitable for the long journey but it was even sweet for the short journey like I did. The seats are slightly diagonal – so not facing directly down the aircraft. It gives you more privacy if you don’t know the person next to you.
Seating and In Flight Entertainment
Sitting with the reclining seat and 15-inch IFE Screen, BOENG 777-330ER gave me a full control of my cabin. The dark green ottoman will carry your feet while you are in the lie-flat mode.
When I mentioned a full control, it really means it. You can control the seat just with 3 buttons: one to move the back up and down, one to move the cushion you sit on forward and back and a third to move the footrest. There are two pre-set positions: upright for take-off and landing, and lie-flat for sleeping.
The other essential features, universal power adapters that monopolized by my notebook, a USB port for Iphone charging, reading lamps and a tiny storage beside your leg to store your laptop or hand bag.
Cathay is competing closely with Singapore Airlines in terms of flight attendants services, I felt they are very friendly and attentive. You know they are there, but you can’t see them frequently. Seems they didn’t pass the aisle so often. They give you privacy and your ‘me-time’, but they are ready to serve when you needed.

I was opted for : smoked salmon tartare,poached Prawns and dill creme fraiche as starters; grilled Hickory smoked black Angus beef fillet with red wine sauce, chorizo, asparagus spears and fingerling potatoes as main meal; cheese and fruits, closed by the king of ice cream, Haagen Daz 😳
There was also a selection of teas and fresh-brewed Illy coffee, as well as a little box of chocolates from which to choose a treat.
By far, the starters were fantastic the salmon and prawn cooked nicely. The main was not so heavy for the dinner, even it was an Angus, moreover it was perfect when combined with Red-Wine. The desserts are my favorites, fresh fruits, variety of cheese (i didn’t take much, worry about my belly), and the unavoidable ice cream.
I have a very good experience during my flight even just for 3 hours 55 minutes. I wasn’t disappointed. I look forward for the next opportunities flying with them again.
